Harley Davidson Sportglide

The Harley-Davidson Sport Glide is a motorcycle that exudes style and performance.

It’s a versatile machine that crosses boundaries. It’s at home tearing up the city streets, cruising to your favourite cafe or being a relaxed tourer.

With its powerful Milwaukee-Eight® 107 V-Twin engine, comfortable riding position and stylish design, the Sport Glide is a great choice for riders who want to enjoy the raw, brutish nature of a Harley Davidson’s V-Twin but with the dynamics of a well-designed chassis.

The Sport Glide’s Milwaukee-Eight® 107 V-Twin engine was a pleasant surprise. On paper, it’s a 1750cc, oil and air-cooled pushrod V-Twin that only produces 82 HP / 61 kW @ 5020 rpm, weighs 317 kg and has a red line below 6000 rpm. These are not particularly impressive stats.

This is not a fair representation of this motorcycle, however.

That Milwaukee-Eight® 107 V-Twin engine delivers smooth, responsive power and plenty of torque for passing and cruising. The suspension is tuned for both comfort and performance, so you can ride on smooth highways or navigate through bumpy back roads.

The Milwaukee-Eight® 107 V-Twin engine is the ninth generation of “big twin” engines developed by Harley-Davidson and is widely regarded as one of the most significant advancements in the company’s history. Introduced in 2016, it marked Harley’s fourth all-new Big Twin in 80 years, bringing significant improvements in power, performance, and fuel economy.

The Milwaukee-Eight® 107 engine is bursting with character. It’s an eight-valve, oil and air-cooled, 107 cubic inch (1,750 cc) pushrod V-Twin, making 139 Nm @ 3000 rpm and 82 HP / 61 kW @ 5020 rpm. This large displacement V-Twin provides ample torque and power for effortless cruising, passing, and hill climbing. It features upgraded fuel injection and reduced engine vibration, making it a more refined and efficient engine.

The Milwaukee-Eight® 107 is the standard engine for a wide range of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. It’s such a versatile engine it’s found in touring, Softail and street motorcycles.

Its versatility enables it to handle a variety of riding styles and applications, from cruising on the highway to navigating city streets, solidifying its position as a cornerstone of Harley’s modern motorcycle lineup.

Harley says the Sport Glide’s riding position is designed for comfort and control. The handlebars are slightly pulled back, the foot controls are angled forward and the seat is plush and comfortable, making it a practical and comfortable motorcycle that you can enjoy on long rides without getting fatigued.

The detachable panniers and quick-release windscreen are neat features that mean that in just a few minutes you can transform the look of the bike from cruiser to naked bike.

At 317 kg, it’s not light. I was slightly concerned that a single disc at the front might not be up to it, but it was great, even with a pillion. The brakes offered good feedback and stopped the bike without issue. The rear brake was a bit of a stretch for me, with the feet forward and arms forward stance. It just takes a bit of adaptation to get the best out of it.

The Sport Glide’s styling is classic Harley-Davidson with a modern twist. It features a stripped-down, blacked-out look that certainly turns heads. The motorcycle’s sharp lines and muscular stance give it an aggressive presence, while its chrome accents and LED lighting add a touch of elegance.

The dash is a simple 5-inch analogue speedo with digital gear, odometer, fuel level, clock, trip, range and tachometer indication.

Overall, the Harley-Davidson Sport Glide is a great motorcycle for riders who want a bike that can do it all. It’s comfortable, powerful, stylish, and versatile, making it a perfect choice for exploring the open road or cruising around town. It has huge presence, makes a gloriously Harley sound and certainly makes a statement.
